Animal Welfare Board of India The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) is a statutory advisory body on Animal Welfare Laws and promotes animal welfare in the country. Established in 1962, it operates under the (Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. Awards for champions of animal protection The AWBI has instituted the national awards for Animal Welfare and Protection to foster animal welfare and reward person(s) and Organisation(s) to acknowledge their contribution towards the cause of animal welfare and animal protection. Prani Mitra Award The Prani Mitra Award was instituted in 1966. Eligible categories The Prani Mitra Award will be conferred under five sub-categories. Advocacy (Individual) Innovative Idea (Individual) Lifetime Animal Service (Individual), along with two awards each for Animal Welfare Organizations and for Corporate, PSUs, Government Bodies, or Co-operatives. Award All the winners of the awards shall be given trophy / shield and certificate. Jeev Daya Award The “Jeev Daya Award” was instituted in 2001 to recognize and appreciate the services rendered by animal lovers. Eligible categories Jeev Daya Award will be presented in three sub-categories: Individual Animal Welfare Organization Schools/ Institutions/Teachers/ Children How to apply The filled in application in the prescribed format to be sent to AWBI by due date as mentioned in the award notification.
